Metal carports

A steel carport is the fastest way to cover a vehicle, boat, RV, or backyard pavilion — built to the width, length, height, roof, walls, and colors you choose. Get a local price from your ZIP, then design every option in the builder. Delivery and professional installation are free on a level site.

Three roofs: Regular (good), A-frame (better), and Vertical (best) — required when length runs past 36 feet so water sheds on a long span. Sides stay open, get top or bottom half-walls, or close fully. Horizontal siding is the factory look; vertical siding is the upgrade. Roof and walls pick from twelve colors independently.

Frames are 14-gauge galvanized American steel (12-gauge for heavier snow or wind) with 29-gauge sheeting, installation available in most states. Start with the form for a local price in the designer, shop a finished building by photo, or talk to us when the size, a commercial job, or a permit drawing is unusual. A deposit holds the order; the balance is due at delivery.

    Roof styles

Good, better, best — three roofs

Every carport you design starts with a roof. These are the same three choices in the builder. Tiles use shop catalog images of those roof styles.

Regular curved-eave metal carport, shop photo 32318 Good

    Regular

Curved-eave arched roof · horizontal panels

The factory-standard roof: rounded eaves and panels that run front to back. Economical cover when you want shade and rain protection without a gable peak.

A-frame boxed-eave metal carport, shop photo 32263 Better

    A-frame

    Boxed-eave gable · horizontal panels

A classic peaked roof with boxed eaves. Horizontal panels stay the factory look; the A-frame sheds water better than a Regular arch.

Vertical-roof metal carport with sides, shop photo 32245 Best

    Vertical

    A-frame boxed-eave · vertical panels

The same A-frame shape with panels that run peak to eave. Rain and snow travel off the roof instead of across seams — the most durable roof we sell. Required in the designer when length is over 36 feet.

Designer rule: if length is greater than 36 feet, Vertical is required so the roof can shed water on a long run.

    Walls and siding

    Open, half, or fully enclosed

Each side of the building is its own choice in the designer. You can mix: enclosed left, open right, closed back, gable front.

    Open-sided A-frame metal carport

    Open sides

No side sheeting. Maximum airflow, easiest access, lowest price. Still a full steel roof and frame.

    Long metal carport shelter

    Top half-walls

Sheeting on the upper half of each side. Shade and wind break up high while the lower opening stays clear.

    Metal carport with regular roof

    Bottom half-walls

Sheeting on the lower half. Blocks splash, debris, and low wind while the top stays open for light and air.

    Metal carport with enclosed sides

    Fully enclosed

Full-height side walls. Combine with closed ends, a roll-up door, and walk-ins for a lockable building. You can enclose one, two, three, or all four sides.

    Horizontal siding (factory standard)

Panels run front to back, matching a Regular or A-frame horizontal roof. This is the default orientation in the factory and the lowest-cost wall look.

    Vertical siding (upgrade)

Panels run bottom to top. Pair with a Vertical roof for a continuous “stripes down” building, or mix it on walls only. Vertical sheeting sheds water at the laps instead of across them.

    Ends: open, gable, or closed

The front and back are independent of the sides. Leave them open for drive-through, add a gable (peak filled, opening below), or close them fully and put a roll-up on the front.

    Doors and windows

Walk-in doors, roll-up garage doors, and windows go on enclosed sides and ends. Adding a door in the designer will close that wall automatically so the opening has something to sit in.

    Colors

    Twelve colors, roof and walls

Pick a roof color and a wall color independently in the designer. Names vary slightly by plant (for example Patriot Red vs. Barn Red) — the swatch is the same twelve codes. Request color samples if you want chips in hand.

    Why a carport

What a metal carport is for

    Cars and trucks

Daily parking that keeps paint, interiors, and batteries out of sun, hail, and snow. Size for one, two, three, or four vehicles — or a custom width.

    Boats and trailers

A dry cover for hulls, covers, and trailers. Leave sides open for tow-in clearance, or add bottom half-walls to block splash.

    RVs and campers

Extra length and leg height turn a carport into an RV cover. Shop dedicated RV buildings, or raise height in the designer.

    Equipment and dry storage

Tractors, mowers, lumber, and feed stay off the ground and out of weather. Enclosed sides add a lockable bay.

    Picnic and pavilion

Open or half-wall sides make a backyard pavilion, farm gathering space, or sideline cover — same steel, different job.

    Workshop in waiting

Start open, add walls, a walk-in, and a roll-up later. Many owners grow a carport into a garage without replacing the frame.

    Metal carport questions

    What is a metal carport?

A metal carport is a galvanized American-steel frame with a roof that covers vehicles, boats, RVs, equipment, or a picnic area. Sides can stay open, or you can add top half-walls, bottom half-walls, or fully enclosed walls. Roof style, siding direction, colors, doors, and windows are selected in the designer.

What roof styles can I choose?

Three. Good: Regular — a curved-eave (arched) roof with horizontal panels. Better: A-frame boxed-eave with horizontal panels. Best: Vertical-style A-frame — the same boxed-eave shape with panels that run top to bottom so rain and snow shed more cleanly. Buildings longer than 36 feet require the Vertical roof in the designer.

What wall and siding options are available?

Each side can be open, top half-wall, bottom half-wall, or fully enclosed. Siding runs horizontally (front to back — factory standard) or can be upgraded to vertical siding (panels run bottom to top). Ends can stay open, get a gable, or close fully. Walk-in doors, roll-up garage doors, and windows go on enclosed sides.

How do I get a price and start an order?

Enter your ZIP on this page or in the designer to see a local installed price as you change size, roof, walls, and colors. A deposit holds the order. The balance is due at delivery. Prefer a person? Call (855) 227-7678 or send a custom quote request.

How does financing a metal carport work?

Get a price quote first so you know the total you need. Approach your lender (or use our financing page to start a conversation), secure the funding, then we manufacture and install the building. Carport.com does not underwrite the loan — you bring the funded amount to the order.

How long does manufacturing, delivery, and installation take?

After the order is funded, the plant schedules your building. Lead time is typically a few weeks and varies by size, certification, and plant load. A crew then delivers and installs on a prepared, level site. Kits ship without a crew if you prefer to assemble.

    Is delivery and installation included?

Yes. Delivery and professional installation are free on a level building site, with installation available in most states. The site must be clear, accessible, and reasonably level. Certified/engineered buildings are available when a permit requires them.

Can I buy a kit instead of an installed carport?

Yes. Choose kit-only in the designer. You receive the steel and sheeting for the size and options you designed. Installed buildings remain the default: free delivery and installation on a level site.

What steel is used, and what is the warranty?

The standard frame is 14-gauge galvanized American steel; 12-gauge is the upgrade for heavier snow or wind. Roof and wall sheeting is 29-gauge. Roofs use a 3/12 pitch. Vehicle clearance is the leg height, not the peak. Frame warranty is 20 years.

When should I choose a garage or an RV cover instead?

Choose a metal garage when you want fully enclosed walls and a lockable door as the starting point. Choose an RV cover when you need extra height and length for a motorhome. You can also start with a carport and add walls, doors, and height in the designer.
