Metal buildings

Commercial metal buildings

A commercial metal building is a clear-span American-steel structure for business: retail, warehouse, shop, or a covered yard. No interior columns in the span, so forklifts, racks, and storefronts fit the floor plan you actually run. Get a local price from your ZIP. Delivery and professional installation are free on a level site.

Three roofs: Regular (good), A-frame (better), and Vertical (best) — the commercial default on long warehouses. Doors and windows go on any wall, including dual drive-throughs. Certified packages are available when the building department asks for engineering.

Frames are 14-gauge galvanized American steel (12-gauge upgrade) with 29-gauge sheeting, installation available in most states. Widths into the 40s and 50s, lengths past 100 feet when the job needs it. A deposit holds the order; the balance is due at delivery.

    Roof styles

Good, better, best — three roofs

Vertical is the commercial default on long spans. Regular and A-frame remain available for shorter covers.

Regular roof commercial metal barn Good

    Regular

Curved-eave arched roof · horizontal panels

The factory-standard roof: rounded eaves and panels that run front to back. Economical cover when you want shade and rain protection without a gable peak.

    Boxed-eave commercial metal carport Better

    A-frame

    Boxed-eave gable · horizontal panels

A classic peaked roof with boxed eaves. Horizontal panels stay the factory look; the A-frame sheds water better than a Regular arch.

Vertical roof commercial metal carport Best

    Vertical

    A-frame boxed-eave · vertical panels

Vertical panels so rain and snow leave the roof — the durable choice on long warehouses and commercial covers. Required in the designer over 36 feet.

Designer rule: if length is greater than 36 feet, Vertical is required so the roof can shed water on a long run.

    Walls and siding

Open yard, partial enclosure, or warehouse

Leave a retail yard open, enclose a shop, or mix a loading canopy with a lockable box.

    Open commercial metal cover

    Open sides

Open sides for a covered yard, lumber, or fleet parking. Still a full steel roof and clear span.

    Commercial boxed-eave cover

    Top half-walls

Sheeting on the upper half of each side. Shade and wind break up high while the lower opening stays clear.

    Commercial metal barn

    Bottom half-walls

Sheeting on the lower half. Blocks splash, debris, and low wind while the top stays open for light and air.

    Commercial metal warehouse

    Fully enclosed

Fully enclosed warehouse or shop with roll-ups on any wall. Dual ends for drive-through staging.

    Horizontal siding (factory standard)

Panels run front to back, matching a Regular or A-frame horizontal roof. This is the default orientation in the factory and the lowest-cost wall look.

    Vertical siding (upgrade)

Panels run bottom to top. Pair with a Vertical roof for a continuous “stripes down” building, or mix it on walls only. Vertical sheeting sheds water at the laps instead of across them.

    Ends: open, gable, or closed

The front and back are independent of the sides. Leave them open for drive-through, add a gable (peak filled, opening below), or close them fully and put a roll-up on the front.

    Doors and windows

Walk-in doors, roll-up garage doors, and windows go on enclosed sides and ends. Adding a door in the designer will close that wall automatically so the opening has something to sit in.

    Colors

    Twelve colors, roof and walls

Pick a roof color and a wall color independently in the designer. Names vary slightly by plant (for example Patriot Red vs. Barn Red) — the swatch is the same twelve codes. Request color samples if you want chips in hand.

    Commercial metal building questions

What is a commercial metal building?

A prefabricated steel building used as a business shell: shop, warehouse, retail, or covered storage. Carport.com buildings are clear-span American steel — 14-gauge frames standard, 12-gauge upgrade, 29-gauge roof and walls — with doors and windows placed for how the business actually moves product and people.

How wide and long can you go?

Commercial catalogs commonly run 30–50+ feet wide and into long lengths (including 80- and 100-foot buildings in the photo shop). Extra-wide jobs and 40×60 shops are everyday requests. Call (855) 227-7678 if you are past the designer’s listed sizes.

Why clear-span instead of a pole barn?

A clear span has no interior posts in the width. That matters for lifts, racking, aircraft, and retail floors. Pole barns grid the interior with wood posts. Our steel frames are galvanized and do not need the same maintenance cycle as wood.

Do I need engineering or certification?

If the building department issues a permit or a certificate of occupancy, they often want stamped drawings and a certified wind/snow package. Those are available when you order.

    Is installation included?

Yes — free delivery and professional installation on a level site, with installation available in most states. Deposit to reserve; balance at delivery. Kits are available if your site is not level enough for our crew.

Can I use it as a storefront?

Yes. Specify walk-in doors, windows, and colors for branding. Leave a wall for signage. Partial enclosure works for garden centers and lumber yards; full enclosure for climate-sensitive inventory.

What roof should a warehouse use?

Vertical is the commercial default on long buildings: panels run with the slope so rain and snow leave the roof. Regular and A-frame remain available for shorter covers.

Can I get an instant commercial building price?

Yes. Open a catalog photo or the metal-building designer. The price is local to your ZIP as you change size, roof, and openings. Prefer a person? Call (855) 227-7678.
